Beautiful Views
I have two major problems with this page. The first is how to decide what constitutes a beautiful view when you are surrounded by them, everywhere you look on the Greek islands. The second problem is that I have already used loads of “beautiful view” photographs elsewhere in this web site when describing other topics.  However, I will attempt to find a handful of what I consider to be “especially beautiful” photographs to show you.

The south of Crete is considerably less developed than the north and after a breathtaking drive through the mountain passes that straddle the centre of the island, this is the sort of view that awaits you on the south coast.
Further along the coast, this is the first sight you get of the delightful bay of Plakias.
The old town of Rethymnon, with its minarets, fortezza, Venetian port and narrow streets has always held a special fascination for me.  This is the town viewed from the harbour wall of the new port.
This is the bay of Agios Stefanos on Corfu, viewed from a tiny harbour at the southernmost tip.
Just a café in front of a fortress, but this picture, to me, says so much about Greek life and history.  This is the café at the base of the fortress walls in Rethymnon.  You have a fabulous view from here over the harbour and the bay.  What is more, there is always a sea breeze here, which is very welcome in a Cretan summer.
What more can I say about the Venetian harbour at Rethymnon.  It is one of my favourite places in the World.  Whenever you go there, there is always something new to discover and a new photograph to take (and they all turn out beautifully).
All right, so maybe I’m overdoing Rethymnon a bit, but I took my new Canon G2 there this summer, and I am very pleased by the quality of photograph it can take, even in extreme conditions.
This was my first view of Kefalonia, taken from the north-west coast of Zakynthos.  It seemed full of mystery and promise, hidden in the summer sea mist and I vowed I would go there some day. I never dreamed that I would in fact be there less than a year later. (Or that it would be the island I am most likely to visit again).
OK, I know, this could just as easily be Morecambe as the bay of Lixouri on Kefalonia, but I just happen to like it, so here it is, all right?

I said before, that I had already used a lot of “beautiful views” under other topic headings, but the links below point to some of the ones I like the most.
