Fond Memories

My mother and father were warm, generous people and I was very fortunate to have had them as my parents. They have now both sadly passed on and as an only child, it was my privilege to write and deliver the eulogies at their respective funerals.  Their stories bear telling and so I have decided to place my words and thoughts here in their memory and with my thanks for a life enhanced by their presence and their love.

The Next Room

A Poem by Canon Henry Scott Holland

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other we are still

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we have always laughed
At the little jokes that we enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word it always was.

I am waiting for you, just around the corner.

All is well.
